I have read that they mate for life -- I was amazed to watch them fly so closely in pairs, often calling to one another and turning together. I am always amazed at how the little birds will harass them. Perhaps they are not really so ferocious - only so in our own eyes, since we have turned them into something more than a magnificent bird, but a symbol. Ah!
